Casa Nu complete with original beams and stripped wooden shutters was recently sympathetically renovated and is the perfect retreat for a couple or small group of friends who wish to experience the wonders of a small Spanish mountain village. The NATIONAL PARK surrounding the village provides fantastic HIKING and MOUNTAIN BIKING straight from your front door.
With its winding, quiet streets, beautiful church, and abundance of plants and flowers, Guajar Alto makes a perfect base for a holiday retreat. Although the village is peaceful and is off-the-beaten-track, it is provisioned with excellent services including four bars, three of which serve food and a bus service to both the nearest town of Motril on the coast, and to the historic town of Granada.
The house comprises of four floors, with the main entrance bringing you into the first floor, where the kitchen and living/dining area are situated. The kitchen is fully and excellently equipped with modern gas hob and electric oven, refrigerator/freezer, and all the kitchen accessories you need.
The living/dining area is beautifully furnished with an antique wood burning stove and a fully sprung bed settee. A large wooden table situated by a large balcony door, is the perfect spot to dine at any time of the day. A CD/cassette/radio is also provided.
The second floor is a large open planned area, with a double bed, inbuilt Moroccan style wardrobe, a slate floor and white washed walls. A separate bathroom with shower is also located on the second floor.
The third floor comprises the roof terrace which overlooks the surrounding majestic mountains and the village of Guajar Alto below. Terrace furniture is provided so you can watch the sunrise, sunset, and the crowded starlit sky at anytime. The terrace is accessed from the second floor bedroom via a small but steep staircase which is suitable for able adults only.
To the right of the main entrance, down the side of the house, is the ground floor/semi-basement area, accessed by a separate locked door. Here a washing machine and larger freezer are provided. The room also doubles as a storage area for any larger items you may have.
Guajar Alto is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding area, either by foot, bicycle, or car.
The availability of walking, either straight from your front door, or just 10-15 minutes drive away is amazing. Protected mountainous parkland starts as soon as you leave the village by the back unmade road, taking you into large areas of sweet smelling pines, cacti, wild rosemary, fennel and thyme. During spring and early summer the mountains sides are covered in an abundance of wild flowers and almond blossom. Orange, almond, chirimoya and olive trees cover the hillsides. Local walks are marked, but the house has it’s own map and suggested routes to take.
It’s possible to hire mountain bikes in the local town of Motril and take advantage of the abundance of unmade roads and tracks that criss cross the mountains surrounding the village with virtually no traffic to contend with.
If you are feeling more adventurous there is plenty to explore by car. The villages and walks available in the popular Alpujarras are only an hours drive away. Granada, which houses the impressive Alhambra is approximately 45 minutes drive away, whilst the coast, is about 20 minutes away. The popular coastal towns of Nerjar and Almunecar are also less than an hours drive.
