This is a spacious, modern house, completed in 2003, which contains traditional features and a first floor lounge. Situated in Ballydavid, one of the most scenic areas of the Dingle Peninsula, the house has panoramic views of the famous Mount Brandon and Smerwick harbour and is in the heart of the Gaeltacht.
On the ground floor, the spacious entrance hall has traditional slate ceramic tiles which extend into the kitchen/dining area. The downstairs living area includes a natural stone fireplace and TV. The pine kitchen, with slate worktop, was hand built by local craftsmen and is exceptionally well equipped. The two ground floor bedrooms both have pine flooring and plenty of cupboard and wardrobe space. One has a king-size bed and the second bedroom has bunkbeds and comes complete with portable TV and a star filled ceiling! The downstairs bathroom contains a bath and shower and heated towel rail.
Upstairs the master bedroom has a super king-size bed and a fully tiled en-suite with electric shower. The upstairs lounge is the main feature of the house and includes natural fuel burning stove, relaxing armchairs, a cd/stereo system and bookshelves packed with holiday fiction and local history and tourism guides. The large roof windows give breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Smerwick harbour.
The property is surrounded by a half acre of garden which includes a children’s swing and activity set, garden furniture and a gas barbecue. There is a shop/restaurant within five minutes walk of the house.
Ardamore House is just seven miles from Dingle town which is filled with award winning restaurants, traditional music pubs and wonderful craft shops. Just four miles away is Europe's most westerly Golf Course - Dingle Golf Links (Ceann Sibeal). The area is a must for those interested in hill walking, fishing, horse riding and water sports or for those who just want to sit back and enjoy a relaxing and stress-free holiday. Enjoy beautiful local beaches, mouth-watering local seafood and enjoy the company of local people who have made an art form of extending a "cead mile failte" to visitors to the area.
Once described by the National Geographic Traveler as “the most beautiful place on earth”, the Dingle Peninsula is a place of intense allure, with a plethora of green landscapes, rocky hills, long sandy beaches and staggering cliff edges. The warm Gulf Stream reaches the peninsula, giving has a wonderful mixture of sometimes rare and unusual flora and fauna.
Dingle is one of Ireland’s Government-protected Irish (Gaelic)-speaking areas, called “Gaeltachts”. Dingle's Irish name is Daingean Uí Chúis which, to fit on signposts, is generally abbreviated to An Daingean.
Many of the towns and villages in the region have Irish names too and, as many maps use the anglicised versions of these names, visitors are advised to purchase maps that give both the Irish and English versions of all placenames.
The area is also very popular with cyclists. Some of the most noteworthy stops on the Peninsula tour include the village of Inch, which has a glorious beach, the now uninhabited Blasket Islands, and the Gaelic-speaking Ballydavid and Ballyferriter.
The region is littered with with relics from both the Stone Age and Bronze Age and, more recently, the Ecclesiastical period, when Ireland was known as the “land of Saints and Scholars”, due to its high number of monasteries and religious schools.
The Dingle Peninsula is also associated with the film industry. Ryan’s Daughter was filmed here, as were parts of Far and Away, which starred Tom Cruise.
